§ 01 — Department

A legacy of biological inquiry, refined across generations.

The PG Department of Zoology had its humble beginning as a joint Department of Biology in 1966 — the very year the College was founded. It was formally separated as the Department of Zoology through bifurcation in 1972–73, established to support the Pre-Medical and BSc (Medical) programmes.

In 2014–15, the Department was elevated to the postgraduate level with the introduction of MSc Zoology, opening new avenues for advanced study and research. Since its inception, the Department has produced consistently excellent academic results, with many students earning top-ten positions in Panjab University Examinations.

The last five batches of MSc Zoology have produced a remarkable number of top-rank achievers in national competitive examinations including UGC-CSIR, GATE, and ICMR — a testament to the rigour of the department's pedagogy and the calibre of its mentorship.
