A continuous tradition of teaching, research, and engagement with the changing requirements of time — micro, macro, and the political economy in between.
The Department of Economics was started in 1966 — the year of the College's establishment — with only thirty students. The Department was upgraded to the postgraduate level in 2011.
Presently, Dr Bandna Goindi is heading the PG Department. The Department has eight regular faculty members alongside an active group of younger scholars; all are engaged in research and in the work of presenting at national and international seminars and conferences. Members serve on various academic bodies.
The Department is known for producing many renowned entrepreneurs, leading educationists and bankers. It is consistently progressing to respond to the changing requirements of time — organising seminars, conferences, extension lectures, tours and trips for the holistic education of its students.
Specialisations across the faculty cover Indian Economy, Health and Industrial Economics, International Economics, Macro and Micro Economics, Managerial Economics, Public Finance, Development and Agricultural Economics, and Quantitative Methods.
Dynamics of Service Quality & Customer Satisfaction in the Indian Banking Sector.
Evaluation of Health Infrastructure for Cancer Patients in the Cotton Belt of Malwa.
From the foundations of microeconomic theory to the macroeconomic and political-economic questions of the day, the Department welcomes students prepared to think analytically and read carefully.
